Artist Spotlight — Chris Burkard: Traveling the World

Call of the Wild 2018 wall calendar

We are honored to welcome Chris Burkard to our family of contributing artists for 2018. He captures the grandeur of Mother Nature in heart-stopping detail while conveying the unique spirit of each place. He is very active on Instagram, sharing images from his adventures to over 2.8 million followers.

Chris BurkardAt thirty, photographer Chris Burkard has seen more of the world than most of us could possibly hope to see in several lifetimes. From Iceland, Norway, and the Russian Far East to India, the Pacific Islands, and South America, he captures his journeys in images that bring faraway places to vivid life.

Burkard is often referred to as a surf photographer, and for good reason. He began contributing to SURFER, where he is now staff photographer, in his early twenties. But that job description may leave too much out, since he also shoots adventure travel, epic landscapes, portraiture, street photography, and extreme sports that have nothing to do with the ocean. We’re Excited to Share! Introducing Our New Calendar Titles for 2018

When someone asks what there is to do, light the candle in their hands. — Rumi

Amber Lotus Publishing has been illuminating spirit in the world since 1988. (2018 will mark our 30th anniversary!) It is our great joy to continue to hold that intention carefully as we craft our products.

This year we’re deeply honored to offer the first calendar – an Amber Lotus exclusive – featuring the calligraphy of Thich Nhat Hanh. Each work of art in The Mindful Art of Thich Nhat Hanh offers a serene expression of his artistry and a timeless interpretation of Buddha’s teachings.

We’re delighted to welcome Katie Daisy to the Amber Lotus family. We have a new wall calendar, a weekly planner, and a coloring book featuring Katie’s inspiring art and unique perspective on living a life with purpose.

Instagram phenomenon Chris Burkard joins us again to create Call of the Wild, featuring his stunning adventure photography combined with his observations on the power of the natural world.

We have a new Rumi calendar featuring text from Coleman Barks paired with exquisite contemporary Persian art. Other new offerings include The Artful Cat, Heart Land, Kitchen Art, Mandala Meditations, and two new weekly planners: Love This Life and Eat Well, Kiss More, Travel Often.

We are grateful for the creative collaboration we share with our customers, artists, authors, reps, and friends, each of whom, in his or her own way, illuminates spirit in the world.

— In gratitude

Peace Now

Peace Now holiday greeting card. Click for more info.

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The first official observance of the day was in September 1982.

The theme for 2017 is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.”

The theme honours the spirit of TOGETHER, a global initiative that promotes respect, safety and dignity for everyone forced to flee their homes in search of a better life. TOGETHER unites the organizations of the United Nations System, the 193 Member States of the United Nations, the private sector, civil society, academic institutions and individual citizens in a global partnership in support of diversity, non-discrimination and acceptance of refugees and migrants. It was initiated during the United Nations Summit for Refugees and Migrants on 19 September 2016. Continue reading

New Coloring Book from Amber Lotus Publishing — Celtic Myth and Symbol: A Coloring Book of Celtic Art and Mandalas by Jen Delyth

Celtic Myth and Symbol coloring book

Experience a personal connection with ancient Celtic mythology and symbolism as you weave color through intricate paths of knotwork, spiral patterns, and mandalas. These powerful symbols encourage us to go within as we meditate on their meanings.

Jen invites you to share the journey:

Celtic art is an intricate, enigmatic language that embraces interpretation. Limitless in creative variation, the ancient spiraling and intertwining patterns and symbols reflect the beat of the earth and the beauty, power, and spirit of nature. Energy flows from the center and unfurls in an infinite dance of possibility. Like the eternal knots, the great circle of life has no beginning and no end; seeds grow to be saplings and tall trees, which then return to the earth.

This art form is a living tradition. I immerse myself in crafting original designs and paintings, searching for simplicity, balance, and meaning within the ancient forms and stories and creating new designs that speak to us today. I grew up in Wales, an ancient land with an artistic culture spiraling back from the Celts to the first people. I find inspiration in my journey as an artist in the sacred patterns of my ancestors, where all is seemingly in motion, yet held in perfect balance.

It is the mysterious and spontaneous exploration of color that brings me the most delight. The Celtic scribes made their own paints by mixing egg white with organic pigments from plants and the earth. Touches of finely ground rare gemstones or of precious gold leaf added brilliance to their intricate illuminated vellum manuscripts. I mix creamy egg yolk with many of the same natural pigments the ancient Celts used. We are fortunate today to have a seductive array of different colors, paints, inks, pens, and pencils to channel our creativity as we bring beauty and personal expression to our art.

I invite you to share in this creative journey — to discover the joy of personal expression with the sensual and often enchanting process of bringing these designs to life with color. I believe that as we connect more deeply with the ancient Celtic language of spirals, knotwork, mandalas, symbols, and patterns, we can experience the gentle meditative focus that often comes with following the twists and turns — to the center and out again — of these mystical patterns.

Ysbryd!
