National Library Week — Celebrating 60 Years

We ❤ libraries! How about you?

This week is an opportunity for us to celebrate. Today, April 11, is even a special day dedicated to celebrating the bookmobile!

Here’s a bit more about this week from the American Library Association:

The National Library Week 2018 celebration will mark the 60th anniversary of the first event, sponsored in 1958.

In the mid-1950s, research showed that Americans were spending less on books and more on radios, televisions and musical instruments. Concerned that Americans were reading less, the ALA and the American Book Publishers formed a nonprofit citizens organization called the National Book Committee in 1954. The committee’s goals were ambitious. They ranged from “encouraging people to read in their increasing leisure time” to “improving incomes and health” and “developing strong and happy family life.”

In 1957, the committee developed a plan for National Library Week based on the idea that once people were motivated to read, they would support and use libraries. With the cooperation of ALA and with help from the Advertising Council, the first National Library Week was observed in 1958 with the theme “Wake Up and Read!”

The 2018 theme is “Libraries Lead.” Visit the ALA website to learn more about celebrations in your area.

Midweek Mindfulness with Michael J. Green: The Emergence — January 24, 2018

Celtic Blessings 2018 wall calendar

Image from our Celtic Blessings 2018 wall calendar featuring artwork by Michael J. Green. Click for more info.

The Emergence

Beneath the chaos and disorder of these days of purification, something is drawing ever closer, even as in the darkest of night the first glimmers of light announce the dawn. Pay heed and attend, for it is a birthing, a becoming, a returning. It is what the ancient people called The Emergence.

When we gather to heal the Earth, then know that the Emergence is drawing close. And when we return to simple lives and walk the Earth in balance once again, then know its dawning has begun. And whoever embraces these ways of harmony shall be called a Warrior of the Rainbow, and will bring comfort and strength and transformation to many.

Here are words the Warriors will say:

You have been hearing that this is the eleventh hour.

Now you must understand, this is the hour and there are things to be considered:

Where are you living?

What are you doing?

What are your relationships?

Are you in the right relationships?

Where is your water?

Know your garden!

Blessed Be.

100,000 More Trees Planted — 750,000 and Growing

100000 trees planted

During 2017, Amber Lotus Publishing funded the planting of another 100,000 trees. This brings the growing number to 750,000 trees planted since 2008. We are honored to work with Trees for the Future to replenish the resources used in crafting our products.

What began as a simple strategy to offset the number of trees used to produce our products has morphed into a fundamental component of our ongoing mission to embrace the concepts of Right Livelihood and mindful living. As our president Lawson Day says, “We intend to continue planting as many trees as we can for as long as we can.”

Thank you for purchasing our calendars, greeting cards, coloring books, and journals. And for being a part of our mission.

Amber Lotus Publishing is proud to be a carbon-negative independent publisher. Read more about our efforts and philosophy of Art, Commerce, and Service.
