We are thrilled to welcome Rachel Grant to our family of contributing artists. Her gorgeous work is featured in our new 2019 wall calendar Women Who Rock Our World. This calendar is one part homage to female scientists, artists, writers, activists, athletes, and leaders and one part call to action. Each month highlights one revolutionary woman’s inspirational words paired with breathtaking original art and a short biography. Regarding her extensive work on the calendar, Rachel said, “It was fascinating to work on. So much inspiration in these women’s stories.”
Here is a bit more about her process and what inspires her wonderful work:
I am an artist and designer based in “The Potteries,” the creative county of North Staffordshire in the middle of England. I work in mixed media — including acrylic, gouache, and collage — bringing them together digitally in my design work to create detailed, textural compositions that convey a sense of warm nostalgia, whilst retaining a fresh, contemporary feel. My artistic practice is grounded in the meditative process of painting with a keen interest in both history and trend. I am inspired by the aesthetic conversation between past and present. Collecting and studying vintage ephemera, patterns, objects, and images in order to interweave historical references with current and upcoming trends in a wide range of markets. Although the subject matter, medium, and end product may vary, my overall aim is to capture an atmosphere of peace and harmony. Quiet, still moments in an otherwise chaotic world.
Being an introvert I am a real home bird, I like to grow vegetables, bake bread, knit, and watch films snuggled under crochet blankets. I yearn for flowers, fresh air, and the sea. And I listen to music all day — every day!
I sell my original artwork and prints in my Etsy store and exhibit occasionally within gallery settings across the UK.
